Tunable metamaterials based on interwoven miniaturized unit cells combine with a tunable antenna to form an ultra‐low‐profile and lightweight antenna system with new multifunctional capabilities in article number 1500295, by Scarborough et al. The new metamaterial antenna provides similar performance to existing commercial antennas, despite being a fraction of the thickness, and provides desirable features for adaptive and cognitive radio systems.
