The front cover picture , provided by Liang Cheng and his co‐workers, illustrates an effective photo‐oxidation of 5‐methylcytidine in the presence of a small organic molecule to afford 5‐formylcytidine, which is a distinctive intermediate during the oxidative demethylation of 5‐methylcytidine in cells. This facile opto‐transformation of a C‐methyl group without disturbing other vulnerable C−H bonds in other biomolecules would be of great potential for in vivo / vitro studies of 5‐formylcytidine and other epigenetic cytosine variants.
