A novel transition‐metal‐free regioselective C‐3 alkylation of coumarins was realized under mild reaction conditions. Various coumarins and tertiary amines smoothly underwent direct C( sp 2 )–C( sp 3 ) bond formation in the presence of ( n‐ Bu) 4 NI as the catalyst and t‐ BuOOH as the oxidant.
