Reaction of sulfonylindoles with protected β‐nitro ketones affords the corresponding 3‐(2‐nitroalkyl)indoles that, under acidic conditions, undergo a sequence of cascade processes finally leading to unsymmetrical 1,4‐disubstituted carbazoles.
