The selective synthesis of ( Z )‐ or ( E )‐3‐aryl/vinyl/alkylidene‐isoindolones, and 2‐benzopyran derivatives from o ‐(1‐alkynyl)benzamides by means of a suitable choice of bases or silver catalysis is described.
