The highly efficient hydroacylation reaction of aldehydes with azodicarboxylates has been carried out in the ionic liquid,1‐ n ‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, [BMIM] [NTf 2 ]. The products were readily separated by extraction from the reaction medium and the ionic liquid could be recycled up to 8 times and the yields of the reactions were not affected. Compared to conventional solvents, high yields were achieved with aliphatic saturated aldehydes, and the reaction can be conducted under normal to mild conditions without the use of a catalyst.
