Solid materials can generate 1 O 2 ( 1 Δ g ) either by irradiation of an immobilized dye in the presence of oxygen, or by catalytic decomposition of H 2 O 2 . The methods for obtaining such solid catalysts are described, and the usefulness of the obtained materials in preparative 1 O 2 oxygenations (“ene” hydroperoxidation, [2+2]‐ and [4+2]‐cycloaddition) is discussed, particularly with respect to substrate scope, solvent scope, reusability and productivity of the catalyst, regioselectivity and chemoselectivity of the oxidation.
