Amplified spontaneous emission in methylammonium lead halide perovskites over transients as long as 100 ns at 200 K temperature is demonstrated. Optical spectroscopy measurements highlight runaway heating dynamics limiting the duration of optical amplification, but also suggest materials and device improvements to circumvent such limitations and allow true continuous wave operation.
