An ultrafast terahertz functionality of thermoelectric materials is shown. Femtosecond laser heating results in terahertz emission from thermoelectric Bi 2 Te 3 thin films in a non‐standard manner. The results manifest an ultrafast build‐up of the thermal diffusion current on the picosecond order, which is useful for the development of high‐speed optoelectronic thermoelectric devices.
