A programmable origami‐based string is a 1‐degree‐of‐freedom slender mechanism which folds from a flat configuration to a programmed 3D shape. Inspired by origami, Ashkan Vaziri and co‐workers replace paper and creases with 3D printed panels and revolute hinges, respectively. As presented in article number 1700276 , even the folding of complex string designs can be fully controlled using a single actuator making them promising for potential robotic applications.
