Tribochemical reactions frequently are decisive for friction and wear. In article number 2001673 by Christian Greiner and co‐workers, such reactions are investigated between copper and its oxides in contact with sapphire. The authors find that freshly formed oxides are beneficial for reducing friction, especially as sliding progresses. Sliding even provides enough energy for a reduction of copper oxide to metallic copper.
