Regulations of photo‐induced phenomena at metal oxide surfaces are essential in developing highly efficient photocatalysts and novel opto‐electronic devices. Iwano Matsuda and co‐workers demonstrate that the photovoltage and lifetime of photo‐excited carriers at a SrTiO 3 surface drastically change with SrRuO 3 overlayers, in article 1600527. The optical responses at the SrRuO 3 /SrTiO 3 heterojunctions are systematically described in terms of spatially‐varying potential energy induced at the interfaces. These results indicate that optical responses of oxide semiconductor heterostructures are designed by the band alignment scheme and they are tailored by film growth.
