In article number 1500598, Nikoobakht and Garrat describe the first examples of concerted response of laterally grown nanocrystals to a local variation in surface lattice disorder in terms of their dynamics, crystal structure, and optical characteristics. The modulation of the lateral nanoepitaxy via local modification of the surface lattice constant enables the control of the orientation and electronic structure of nanocrystals.
