Tunable control of Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) patterns can be effectively realized by introducing a prestructure on the substrate. Branch structures due to instabilities are suppressed and the periodicity as well as the direction of LB patterns becomes well tunable by the prestructures. It provides the possibility to control the patterning of polymers or other materials used in dip coating or other spreading methods.
