Nonvolatile liquid and smooth carpets preserve polymer brushes. The development of a robust low friction system is intensively investigated to improve the lifetime and energy efficiency of mechanical systems. The combination of ionic liquid polymer brushes and mole cularly smooth sheets results in low frictional properties ( μ min ≈ 10 −3 ), high load bearing (14.7 N), and repeatable measurements (4000 cycles).
