Y. Ikuhara and co‐workers examine in article 1400143 the growth mechanism of an epitaxial LiMn 2 O 4 thin film on gold, revealing structural and compositional variations near the film/substrate interface. Scanning transmission electron microscopy and related techniques with sub‐atomic resolution reveal an atomically flat and coherent interface rich in manganese and poor in lithium and oxygen.
