The electronic and optical functions of polymeric C 3 N 4 can be easily modified by the inclusion of metal species such as Fe in its structure. The metal species lowers the bandgap and expands the light absorption of the material further into the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum, while keeping a sufficient overpotential for carrying out oxidation reactions.
