Conditions for spontaneous charge transfer across C 60 /polymer interfaces (in the ground state) are mapped out with aid of photoelectron spectroscopy. The polymers and C 60 interact weakly, i.e. , the electronic states of the organic semiconductors are coupled only by tunneling, which in turn results in transfer of complete charges across interfaces.
