Ionic transition metal compounds which exhibit mesomorphism in aqueous systems are reported. These oxovanadium‐based surfactants display binary (surfactant/H 2 O) and ternary (surfactant/H 2 O/decanol) mesomorphism and represent a step towards the development of lyotropic materials with large magnetic anisotropies.
