Thermotropic polymers containing charge‐bearing mesogenic moieties in the repeat unit are rare. This article reports a self‐assembly, two‐component approach for the preparation of side‐chain liquid‐crystalline polymeric materials possessing charged hydrogen‐bonded mesogenic groups. A unique feature of this system is that simple mixing of two non‐mesogenic components (see figure) is used to produce a side‐chain liquid‐crystalline polymer.
