The irreversible protection of iron surfaces with metalloporphyrins through electrolysis is reported. Tetraphenyl porphyrins (see figure) are also shown to exhibit a corrosion‐inhibiting effect when iron samples coated with the various porphyrin derivatives are treated with 5% sulfuric acid.
