The thermo desorption mechanism of Cd‐arachidate langmuir–Blodgett films has been shown to involve the lateral rupture of the film to give droplets (see Figure). On further heating, these droplets lose the aliphatic molecular part resulting in a uniform lateral distribution of three‐dimensional inorganic clusters on the substrate surface.
