While RNA is currently revolutionizing biology, progress in this field is in a constant race against ribonucleases, which are omnipresent and rapidly destroy RNA. On page 1332 M. Puddu, W. J. Stark, and R. N. Grass demonstrate that RNA can be easily encapsulated within silica, and can then evade the enzymatic action. This allows reliable room temperature storing and shipping of RNA samples.
