Carbide‐derived carbons with hierarchical porosity derived from a polymer precursor can be used for the extracorporeal removal of pro‐ and anti‐inflammatory cytokines. The removal rates scale with the surface area of pores large enough to accommodate the protein molecules and this method has potential for efficacious treatment of sepsis, one of the major challenges in healthcare.
