This special issue showcases some of the ongoing research at the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems (BINN). The fields of research can be summarized using a “science tree”. The main trunk is based on functional materials and fundamental physics effects. The major fields of research are self‐powered systems, nanogenerators, blue energy, tribotronics, piezotronics, and piezo‐phototronics. The small branches represent the potential applications and future perspectives.
