Novel in situ reinforcement of Al 4 C 3 nanorod is synthesized by template reaction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with Al matrix via powder metallurgy. In situ Al 4 C 3 /Al composites show greatly enhanced mechanical properties, such as tensile properties and Young’s modulus, compared with Al materials.
