This paper deals with the anisotropic fatigue behavior of a bainitic steel and aims at improving the fatigue criteria used for the design of forged components. The two different types of anisotropic fatigue behavior observed in the literature are discussed. Experimental results are presented for a hot‐rolled steel which demonstrates the effect of elongated inclusions on the fatigue behavior. A model is proposed to account for the anisotropic fatigue behavior.
