Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) enables us to obtain great deformation rates. By changing the orientation of material between successive extrusions, various micro structural evolutions can be developed. Two consecutive deformations define the scalar parameter of the change of strain path; we investigate its influence on mechanical properties of interstitial free steel and aluminium. The hardness measurements of Interstitial Free Steel, via route A and C, show that the route C is the least interesting for structural refining.
