A contribution is made to the study of the negative difference effect (NDE) for AZ91 corroding in 1N NaCl. The volume of evolved hydrogen, the weight loss and the mass of Mg 2+ ions was measured for applied current densities from 0 to 6 mA/cm 2 . The experimental results agreed with the standard model of Mg corrosion involving the unipositive Mg + ion.
