This issue of Advanced Engineering Materials is once again devoted to the progress in research and development of magnesium alloys and their applications. It is guest‐edited by Prof. K. U. Kainer from GKSS Research Center in Germany, who was also Chairmen of the recent International Conference on this topic, organised by the DGM and held in Dresden in November 2006. The special issue contains selected papers from the conference to give a broad overview on the most important developments in this area of light metals research.
