Systematic investigation of the laser assisted machining of commercially pure titanium was conducted and compared with conventional machining in terms of reduction of cutting forces, chip formation and machined surface. Both the magnitude and fluctuation of cutting forces were dramatically reduced, machined surface was smoother and the chip formation mechanism was changed (as shown in the pictures) with the assistance of laser beam in front of cutting tool.
