An unusual processing route for sintering TiAl was explored: Spark Plasma Sintering. Reproducible and promising mechanical properties were achieved. By its versatility and short process time (typically 100 times faster than the shortest routes used until now) together with the large variety of available microstructures, this route appears to be an important process to develop in materials science, especially for promoting the use of TiAl alloys.
