The volume‐averaging model of solidification during casting is state‐of‐the‐art for describing the various processes involved, e.g., nucleation, phase transport and macroseggregation. Here, simulation results are presented that support the theory by numerical data. Good agreement between calculations and experimental values is demonstrated for an Al‐4 wt.‐% Cu plate casting system, and the crucial influences during the different stages of the process are outlined.
