MEBSP is the acronym for a pan‐European research effort undertaken to develop means of microstructure control by solidification processing. The mega‐project gathered together eight industries, six research centers, and six universities for four years in a network spanning Europe from Finland to Spain. The article summarizes the results from MEBSP’s four sub‐topics: “nucleation and grain refinement”, “solidification and microsegregation”, “thermophysical data”, and “thermal stresses and strains during solidification”.
