Composite materials are used as an alternative for amalgam fillings or as fixing materials in dentistry. Similar types of materials can be used as bone replacement materials such as replacements for the small bones in the ear. Materials of this type possess a high proportion of filler which can only be achieved by specific design of the filler matrix.
