Ultrasonic metal welding joins load‐bearing glass fibres of composites or pure glass fibres directly to metal sheets. The weldings reach tensile shear strengths of up to 23 MPa. A possible application is given in the Figure which shows aluminium sheets welded to a composite (left) and a glass fibre fabric (right).
