Another state has joined the alcohol‐to‐go post‐COVID regulations. The move during the lockdown months, originally touted as a way to keep people from going into bars and restaurants (which were closed for indoor business anyway) and spreading the virus, are now freely acknowledged to be a way to beef up business for the struggling hospitality industry. This was despite the fact that liquor stores were open and viewed as essential businesses. Now states — with strong support from the bar and restaurant industry — are, one by one, deciding alcohol‐to‐go is here to stay. Connecticut has just extended the rule for three years. As an added benefit — to the industry but probably to the drinkers as well — the Connecticut law requires that food be sold with the drinks, which must be sealed. What's next in blue‐law country? Sunday‐morning sales?
