Last month's announcement of the availability of genetic data from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions‐III (NESARC‐III) came as welcome news to researchers looking for nationally representative data. The degree to which this information will ultimately guide treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs) remains largely unclear, given the relatively small effect of most of the currently known genotypes that influence addiction.
