Last week, the Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Act of 2021, which would fund the creation of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics in states, was introduced. Sens. Roy Blunt (R‐Missouri) and Debbie Stabenow (D‐Mich.) announced the bill June 15. It builds on the 2014 Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Act, which allowed services to be funded through state health care systems, not just grants. “Although we've nearly defeated this pandemic, our nation continues to face a significant mental and behavioral health crisis,” said Senator Blunt in announcing the bill. “We can help more people get the care they need by expanding Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics.” The report has the support of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, formerly the National Council for Behavioral Health, whose members are CCBHCs.
