“Four Good Days,” a movie that seems to be about the use of Vivitrol to treat opioid use disorder, did not involve Alkermes, Vivitrol's manufacturer, at all. According to a statement provided by Alkermes, the company had nothing to do with the movie. Still, there is only one such product on patent in the United States and no generic, so it's basically an unpaid advertisement for Vivitrol. “We are aware of the film ‘Four Good Days,’ but had no involvement in the development or production of this film or in the treatment journey of the woman on whom the film is based,” according to the statement. “While Alkermes is not mentioned in the film, the treatment option that is discussed is ‘an opioid antagonist shot,’ which we believe is a reference to Vivitrol (naltrexone for extended‐release injectable suspension).” Alkermes wasted no time in taking advantage of this unpaid product placement, going on for several paragraphs to describe the benefits of Vivitrol.
