Robert Ashford, Ph.D., came up with the idea of “recovery‐friendly workplaces” because, as he explains, “we know that people in recovery occupy every sector.” His nonprofit, Unity Recovery, has two grants from the state of Pennsylvania — the first for $200,000, renewed for $450,000, and an application now for another $400,000, to certify recovery‐friendly workplaces. “We do a needs assessment, and develop a plan for them,” he told ADAW last week. So far, Unity Recovery has certified 30 employers in Pennsylvania.
