The link between harm reduction and treatment was a theme of the drug priorities released by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) this month, with a focus on reducing overdoses. With more than 70,000 overdose deaths in 2019, and an increase in involvement of stimulants in recent years, new approaches are necessary, according to the ONDCP, which made the announcement April 1. Additionally, “systemic inequities in our nation's approach to criminal justice and prevention, treatment, and recovery” have emphasized the need for change.
