It didn't take a study to prove that the more marijuana advertising adolescents are exposed to, the more likely they are to want to use the drug, but this study showed a lot more than that. The study, “Youth's proximity to marijuana retailers and advertisements: Factors associated with Washington state adolescents' intentions to use marijuana” was conducted by surveying 350 13–17‐year‐olds in Washington state in June 2018. Published online October 8 by the Journal of Health Communication, the study looked at the distances between retailers (who advertised) and concluded that states that have legalized recreational marijuana should consider the location of retailers in relation to neighborhoods and advertising that appeals to youth. In addition, there should be prevention efforts aimed at influencing beliefs by teens.
