The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) is an outlier in the world of so‐called “Beltway bandits” — entities subsisting (OK, thriving) on federal grants and contracts for their existence. Under its grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide technical assistance (TA) for opioid grantees, it is going above and beyond what it had signed up to do, and it's doing it for free.
