“States are on the front lines” of the opioid epidemic. These were the opening words of Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D‐New Jersey) at “A Public Health Emergency: State Efforts to Curb the Opioid Crisis,” the Jan. 14 hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. Because states are “our eyes and ears on what is occurring on the ground,” the committee is holding a series of hearings on the opioid crisis.
