On Oct. 23, first lady Melania Trump went to Capitol Hill for the anniversary of the signing of the SUPPORT Act. In particular, she highlighted the legislation's support to drug‐dependent mothers and babies. “Today on the Hill was a great opportunity to acknowledge the incredible work the administration is doing in our communities and throughout this nation to end the drug crisis through the SUPPORT Act,” she said. “It also served as a continued call to action for members of Congress to continue building on what is working and identifying ways that all levels of government can support the effort. I look forward to working together with Congress to continue providing support to families suffering from this terrible crisis.” We asked veteran Hill lobbyist Andrew Kessler, principal with Slingshot Solutions, if this means anything. He said: “Instead of celebrating the anniversary of the SUPPORT Act, it would be preferable for members of Congress to finish the appropriations process, because at the moment, not a single program created in that act has received a dime. If this is such an urgent issue, policymakers need to take action, and there is no more important action than appropriating the funds that the community so desperately needs.”
