A five‐year national study seeking to enhance the availability of medication‐assisted treatment (MAT) and behavioral therapy for opioid addiction in rural areas will not directly involve the specialty addiction treatment community. With primary care clinics often the only accessible treatment site for people with opioid use disorder (OUD) who live in remote locations, the federally funded initiative will be geared to improve these clinics' capacity to address opioid addiction comprehensively.
