Doctors who are frustrated because they send patients to CVS pharmacies with prescriptions for buprenorphine and the pharmacy says they don't stock it, take note: CVS corporate tells us this is not allowed. “CVS Pharmacy makes every effort to stock the prescription medication buprenorphine‐naloxone, which can play an important role in the fight against opioid abuse,” spokeswoman Amy Lanctot told ADAW last week. “If an individual pharmacy is temporarily out of stock, it can typically order the medication for receipt within one to two business days. However, regulatory controls may limit the ordering or inventory levels of controlled substances at a pharmacy.” And it's not up to the pharmacist, she said. “CVS Pharmacy does not have franchises. Our company policies and procedures apply to all of our nearly 10,000 locations nationwide,” she said.
