Despite data showing that substance use problems are disproportionately common among the children and young adults living in families of high net worth, many of these families do little preparation for these outcomes until a crisis already has been reached. Even some families that have engaged estate planning attorneys early on will find that the trust agreements that were drawn did not cover every detail that could stand in the way of sound treatment and recovery for the identified patient.
