In Hong Kong, open‐air eateries that advertise their appetizing menus on big signs are the most common informal setting for consuming delicious food with friends and family. Jeffrey W Cody and Mary C Day seek out these ‘big‐sign’ eating places in the smallest alleyways as well as in the province's fresh‐food markets and, perhaps most surprisingly, in the midst of its postwar housing estates.
